ADVANCED TRAINING FOR EAR, NOSE AND THROAT IN AFRICA
Supporting and Training ENT residents and super specialists in Africa
Supporting and Training ENT residents and super specialists in Africa
ATENTA is dedicated to expanding high quality Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) specialty care by African trained physicians throughout the continent.
ENT physicians save lives and provide an improved quality of life for patients. Africa has a severe shortage of trained ENT specialists, the equipment required for the delicate surgeries, and modern facilities. Training specialists in Africa and providing sustainable support is critical to avoid the brain drain that afflicts health care in Africa. Physicians from Africa trained in Europe or the Americas often remain permanently after the training is completed.
ATENTA subsidizes ENT training programs in Eastern Africa, provides equipment, develops mentorships with International ENT professors, expands educational resources regionally and internationally, and has plans to build modern facilities that meet the needs of patients and the highly skilled ENT physicians. The most critical need is the purchase of specialized equipment needed for life saving surgeries. At KCMC, ENT surgeons agonize, unable to treat life ending and life altering conditions for the lack of appropriate instruments.
It began in 2004 with a group of international ENT professors with a vision and a few of the best medical students at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical School (KCMC) in Moshi, Tanzania.
